Card Marathon
Helen Jones (608) 249-5580
Usual Meeting Times: Schedule is determined based on the number of participants and the games chosen.
Appropriate Age Level: All adults.
Membership Dues: $7.00 per year.
This is a parish social function sponsored by the Ladies Guild for all adults who enjoy playing cards. It is a rewarding experience which began about 25 years ago. Bridge, Five-Hundred, Euchre or Sheepshead are the game choices. Each person plays once a month from September through April. You and your partner would entertain four times during the year, and go to the home of other members on the scheduled dates. Some of the games are scheduled for days only.
Currently, there are approximately 210 people actively involved. Many people have renewed their memberships for years.
Registration is held from July until mid-August. Schedules are distributed in September for the game you signed up to play.
In May, the entire group meets at the Parish Center for a card party with prizes awarded for the total points accumulated during the year. Snowbirds can arrange to play their games in advance before their departure, and working people find the flexible schedules easy to plan. |
Knights of Columbus
Lee Klokow
(608)241-2481
Usual Meeting Time: Third Tuesday of every month, 7:00 p.m.
Appropriate Age Level: Men 18 years of age and older.
Membership Dues: $20 annually.
The Knights of Columbus at St. Peter's was chartered 12 years ago as the Fr. Lawrence Korback Council #10893. Its purpose is to assist the parish where needed and to support young men and women who are pursuing religious vocations. There are also family-sponsored events along with youth-oriented projects.
Family Sunday breakfasts are held at various times throughout the year. The Knights are known for their breakfasts, fabulous steak and chicken dinners, and famous spaghetti and meatball dinners. Knights also participate in parish baptisms by presenting the family/families involved with a rosary (a reminder of our faith and importance of prayer) and a rose (a sign of new birth).
The Knights raise money for parish needs, parish scholarships, and local charities. Money is raised through the Tootsie RollŪ Drive and the sale of nuts and Entertainment Books to assist the mentally challenged. |
Ladies Guild
Anna Skaife (608)249-1957
St. Peter's Ladies Guild philosophy is to have the following:
- Spiritual enrichment
- Educational enrichment
- To do good works
- To enjoy social activities
Through this philosophy, a feeling of sisterhood has developed - a unique blending of young and old - working, learning, praying, and playing together. There is a sense of continuity of our faith through the women of our parish.
A major activity of this group is the St. Peter's Annual Bazaar held in the fall. Its purpose is to provide an opportunity for our parish community to work together to raise money for parish functions. This event requires the involvement of members of all ages.
The work usually begins in the summer. Workers and ideas for projects are always needed. The parish function is a great way to meet new people and have fun working for the benefit of our parish.
Proceeds from the bazaar are used to purchase kitchen supplies and other items for St. Peter's Parish, in addition to assisting local charities. |
Lawn Care
Father Roger Nilles (608) 249-6651
Parishioners who volunteer for this committee assist the parish in the maintenance of our beautiful grounds. They take care of the area as needed, particularly weeding. Currently, there are approximately 20 families sharing this responsibility. Reserves are always welcomed. |
Newcomer's Committee
Shirley Raymakers (608)241-0758
The goal of this ministry is to help new members of St. Peter's feel welcomed in our parish family and to inform them about the various ministries and programs available at St. Peter's.
New members receive the Parish Handbook when they register. Newcomers' Sunday is held twice a year, once in the spring and again in the fall. Refreshments are served after the 9:00 a.m. mass. This is an opportunity for new members to meet other parishioners and for current parishioners to introduce them to the various activities related to the community of St. Peter's. |
Refreshments and Social Committee
David and Sue Whooley (608) 846-2152
The members of this committee make themselves available to serve hors d'oeuvres, coffee and doughnuts, desserts, or wine and cheese for certain activities in the parish where light refreshments are appropriate. They work in collaboration with the Newcomers Committee, Ladies Guild, Knights of Columbus, and others. If interested in volunteering for this committee, please contact David or Sue Whooley. |
