Fr. Jim McEnery was deeply grateful for the 90th birthday party our parish hosted for him on Saturday, May 6.
As a token of his gratitude he has presented to St. Peter’s an antique copy of the Roman Missal (Missale Romanum).
This missal, which was the only one used in the universal Church until after the Second Vatican Council, was authorized by Pope Pius V in 1570, following the Council of Trent. Minor revisions were approved by Popes Clement VIII and Urban VIII.
The edition we have received was authorized by Anton von Henle, Bishop of Ratison (Germany) in 1912. It was printed in the same city by Friderick Pustet in 1913.
The missal is leather bound and illustrated by many black and white engravings and two in color at the beginning of the Roman Canon.
The missal is on display in the Atrium of our church. Thank you, Father Jim, for this beautiful gift. We will treasure it.
